Gil Scott-Heron
Saw Gil Scott-Heron at Summerstage last Sunday. He was cool. I could just listen to him talk all day. He sang two of my favorite songs. Then common came on and did a couple songs. Common was just medicore, kept repeating the title of the song...we get it dude. Still cool that he did a song that sampled Gil.
We Almost Lost Detroit - check out from 1:58-2:10 for the sample.
Gil's first song was pieces of a man. Better song than We Almost Lost Detroit. Better use sample by KMD too.
Check out 2:16 - 2:30
God Doom, sorry Zev Love X, kills it. So good.
As is the Non-Remix
Gil's also got a killer cut off his new release with Nas. Called "New York is Killing Me"
Armagideon Time
Willie Williams - Armagideon Time. Hot Damn this song is good. The offbeat organ just sets up a groove that is so tightly interwoven with that bassline.
And I forgot but it was in ghost dog too
Oh and the Clash covered it too

Pure Imagination
The song 'pure imagination' was included in a commercial recently and it reminded me that the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is awesome.

Y'allz seen this?
Saw 'In Bruges' with Colin Farrell
Great movie. Great dark humor. The actor who plays Harry is great, especially his rant of a message when they aren't around to receive his call. Every scene with the midget is also hilarious.

MTV?
Parusing cable tv for the first time in a long while I fell upon the MTV Movie awards show. I'm in LA and it was already 1 AM and I couldn't sleep so I decided to watch.
I caught the girl from Twilight accepting her award.
And you know what I kind of liked how ambivilant to the whole proceeding she seemed in her acceptance speech. This was compounded by the promotional spot for the movie Grown-Ups that preceeded her award.
After seeing how hard and utterly shamelessly and without an ounce of humor Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, and Company have been trying to push their movie Grown-ups lately,(see NBA Finals)
">
I thought 'maybe there's something to her ambivalence to this whole proceeding'.
But then I saw that the NYTimes made fun of her lack of emotion. And So I decided I had been wrong.

Boners
Sometimes Vanity Fair is good for something.
Why are French actresses so haaut?
The two most common times to get a boner...in museums and watching French New Wave films. Luckily MoMa doesn't show too many of those.
Chantal Goya
Brigitte-Bardot
Jeanne Moreau
French film even know how to make an American look good.
